Abstract

The Jepara riot on July 7, 1998 was one of the impacts of the reforms at the local level that began in May in the same year. This riot has claimed lives, significant material and immaterial losses. The cause of this riot was the politicization of religion in the political field. To study this problem, the critical historical method is used which includes four steps, namely heuristics, criticism, synthesis and historiography. The data mining technique uses written primary sources in the form of archives from other contemporary reports, such as newspapers and magazines. Oral primary sources are obtained through direct interviews with competent people. Secondary sources are obtained through literature study of books by relevant scholars and experts or other forms of publication. The results showed that the role of the Kyai in politics in Jepara was very large in directing his followers to determine their political direction. The emergence of a plan to form a new party among NU residents has divided Jepara society. The culmination of this split led to the rioting on July 7 1998. This paper is a development of the author's thesis entitled Kyai, Politics, and Violence: Riots in Jepara 1998.

Abstract

The cultivation of nationalism is very important for the younger generation, including students throughout the archipelago. National pride is the basic capital to build a nation state regardless of ethnicity, language, and religion followed by high school students. This article aims to determine 1) the national perception of Christian students in Central Sulawesi, Kab. Poso; 2) and explore what factors shape the national perceptions of Christian students in the region. By using the quantitative description method, in this study the following findings were obtained: The sense of state defense from the research sample is known to be 91%, maintains the Pancasila ideology 91%, is proud of the NKRI 92%, respects the red and white flag 94%, respects differences in 99%, coexists with other tribes 98%, respects religion and beliefs 100%, congratulate 97% of different religions. Based on the data about these perceptions, it can be seen that; First, students in Poso District have positive perceptions of nationalism (nationalism). Second, students still have a vulnerable national view, especially when connected with attitudes towards the basic existence of statehood. Third, students still have a vulnerability to religious issues, where religious sentiment can be a trigger for conflict. Fourth, students still hold the view that the life of the nation and state can only be strengthened if its citizens uphold the philosophy of the nation (Pancasila) within the framework of a unitary state.

Abstract

The study, which begins with the existence of differences in religious rituals in rural areas, a tradition that is maintained from time to time, is tolerant, religious, and inclusive aims to determine the process of forming harmony in different communities in religious understanding. Religious spirit is an important reason for this research, which is researched using descriptive qualitative methods through observation of the role of religious leaders who are randomly selected in the phenomenological research area. In this study, it was found that there was a strong interaction between religious leaders and the community through messages to maintain mutual attitudes and speech was the key to establishing a harmonious relationship. The practice of different religious rituals for society is common. These differences are found at the level of branching, not in the main things such as tahlilan, syukuran, mapag sri, sedekah bumi, selametan and other religious rituals. It can be concluded that the role models of regigious figures are the main key to maintaining harmony in the life of religious communities. They provide direct demands on attitudes and actions in society. They educate the community which is internalized through actions on religious practices that are assimilated in customs, culture and rituals related to the needs of religious communities in rural communities and provide new knowledge for the community to maintain mutual religious harmony, side by side in diversity.

Abstract

Tolerance is acknowledged as the principle of national cultural advancement agenda as it has been planned by the government through The Law No. 5 of 2017. In this matter, the advancement of religious culture encourages the concept of diversity and religious management. This research discusses about how the conception of a more mature tolerance for religious management and the advancement of religious culture in Indonesia. By referring the local wisdom and reflecting the tolerance portraits of the field research in one of the tolerance center in Puja Mandala Bali, this research delivers a description and analysis upon a more ultimate model of tolerance. The writer uses a transformative approach to elaborate the concept of tolerance which emphasizes on the respect of equality between the majority and minority. The conclusion shows that the religious culture projection in the future to establish an excellent tolerance urges to leave a permissive and dominative tolerance and to brace a mutualistic and reciprocal tolerance with mutual relations (mutual-respect and mutual-recognition) as it has been projected by the people in Puja Mandala. This research also emphasizes the significance of the art, philosophy and science for the cultural approach toward interreligious harmony.

The results of this study say that Hindu Nusantara and Islam Nusantara are both able to finalize his teachings with the context of human life he encountered. The results of religious dialogue and contexts read in this study include tradition in the form of worship and social, visit the cemetery, marriage, pay promises or nazar, and respect for the leader or kiai. These four traditions show philosophical relation with each in its context. This shows that many traditions of marketing awakening in Islam and Hindu are maintained through Islam Nusantara initiated by the Nahdlatul Ulama and Hindu Nusantara initiated Hindu Tolotang. This article also shows that there is an understanding of Islam Nusantara and Hindu Nusantara which assesses the fact that Indonesia is a multicultural, pluralistic country that brings together religion and local culture.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper describes religious moderation based on culture and local wisdom in the Donggo community in Bima. This paper examines the standpoint of culture and local wisdom in assessing religious moderation for the Donggo community. This research is a historical research with a socio-cultural approach. The input methodology is the flow of the flow in the historical methodology which takes the stages of heuristic, criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results showed that the Donggo area (Dana Donggo) is a place for culture and local wisdom as well as a role model for diversity in the midst of religious plurality. Interestingly, religious moderation in the Donggo (Dou Donggo) community is actually united by a variety of cultural expressions and local wisdom, not because of religious factors. Meanwhile, religious moderation is increasingly taking root in the midst of religious plurality because it is supported by the use of symbols, identities and rites of ‘Raju Culture’ as social glue without religious barriers.
